About

With AshtangaNews.com, we aim to follow and publish news about Ashtanga yoga and its practitioners. By Ashtanga yoga, we mean the Ashtanga vinyasa yoga system as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore India.

Vinyasa refers specifically to the flow of movement connected to the breath in between yoga postures, or asana. If you are looking for information on the classical system of Ashtanga yoga, you are probably looking for the Eight Limbs. As so often is the case, the Wikipedia article is a good place to start.

Annie Pace’s Ashtanga Yoga in the Tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois succintly explains both the Eight Limbs and Asana. This article has been approved by Sri K. Pattabhis Jois.

Philippe Alexis and Tracy Rabold started AshtangaNews. They live and practice in the San Francisco Bay Area.

I’ve been on the Internet and practicing yoga for more than 10 years, and this site is a combination of these two passions for me. My first teacher was John Scott, and since then, I’ve had the opportunity to study with many wonderful teachers. I’ve been trying to go to Mysore, India since 2001, and I think I might manage it in 2007.

I teach and practice at my local studio, Yoga Is Youthfulness in Mountain View, California. When I’m not practicing yoga, I develop user-friendly, easy-to-maintain websites for the company I founded, no diamonds web services.

I am an enthusiastic yogini who started practicing Ashtanga in 1999. After a career in finance, I decided to join San Francisco’s current trend, the Internet. I love writing and yoga, and this is a perfect way to combine them.
